Gunns still plans to build a massive pulp mill in beautiful northern Tasmania. This mill will continue to be propped up by a Forest Industry that clears large areas of Tasmania's native forest for minimal public revenue, and will pump its effluent into Bass Straight. Governemnents have bent over backwards to get this project off the ground, despite massive community opposition and the majority of independent scientists denouncing the project in its current form.
Mt. Weld is one of the more prominent and recognisable ranges in the south of the state, the summit proper capping the northern end of the impressive 8km long Weld Ridge.
The Coronets are located on the Northern rim of Lake Pedder, south of the Sentinel Range and offer typical South West topography of button grass plains and open ridges interspersed with quartzite tors and bands of scrub and dense forest.
